    I'm finding Eagle Rare for $42 (seems like a great price these days) and Buffalo Trace for $30 at a store in the Atlanta metro. Buffalo Trace has actually been harder to find, recently. Neither is just sitting on the shelf, but if I show up at the right time on the right day then I can get it. Would you being buying ER at those prices?

      I would, or at least if was going going to buy either at those prices, I would choose the ER. I pay more than that for ER, but I can get BT around here for less. Which makes it easier to pick up. Thanks for sharing!

    I haven't had a chance to watch the Bridgeland interview vid yet, but it's saved to catch at some point soon. I think we were heading out east when it dropped. At times it feels as though we're barely treading water when it comes to keeping an eye on what the industry is producing. There's just so much out there now. Have really had to sit back, relax, and put it into perspective. One thing I feel it's important to remember, is how incredibly fortunate we are. To be able to indulge in this passion...(hobby? obsession?)...truly is a privilege, especially in a day and age when so many are struggling. I'm extremely grateful for what I do have. Sharing in the whisky community seems to be a given, whether with samples, advice, knowledge, or enthusiasm. It transcends all borders. Surely such generosity is something that we should aspire to, in every aspect of our lives. Happy Canada Day, my friend that I've yet to meet! 🥃🇨🇦🥃 Marian

    Hey Jon, I’m in Regina and Last Mountain is 20 minutes from my door. I have the Pile O’ Bones wheat whisky. Actually I’ve had it for a couple of years and mine is right about at the same fill level. Your tasting notes weren’t far off from what I’d think of it and much like you I couldn’t get past the weird sweet and soapy taste. I know you corrected yourself about a soapy note but when I heard you say the word I had an “ah ha” moment. That’s what I get out of it. I really didn’t care for it at all. However I did have a quarter bottle of their 2020 Distiller’s Batch (their take on bourbon) and it had oxidized a bit too much and also sat so about a month ago I figured it wouldn’t hurt anything. It wouldn’t be much of a loss to blend the two of them together in one bottle and let it sit for a while and marry. The result was actually quite pleasant as the wheat was a nice complement to the 75% rye and 25% corn mash bill of the distillers select. Regardless, I appreciate the honest review and I have also had the hundred percent wheat and I agree it is a superior product. Great review Jon keep up the good work. 🥃👌

    • @WhiskyNeighbour
      @WhiskyNeighbour 5 дней назад

      So cool you live close at the distillery and have made it out! I can totally relate to the soapy note. It is there, but then I thought it pushes slightly to that artificial gum note. Either way, not my favourite and I see we can relate. Glad mixing with a little "bourbon" helped it out. I may need to try a few mixes with this as well. Thanks for dropping in and sharing your experience. Cheers!

    French whisky has begun to be talked about in some of the forums, so I'm glad to get your take on this one. Armorik sounds good overall, and you're right. It may just need a few more years to really come into its own. Will have to keep an eye/ear open as further products are released. You know, there's nothing wrong with a decent basic dram. Affordable, available, easier on the old liver! Haven't had this particular Glenlivet but for a lighter alternative, or in a summer cocktail, it could work a treat. Cheers to the weekend, very glad you're finally getting a little summer weather. Mind you, you can have some of ours...we're baking here! Enjoy the evening 🥃🥃 Marian 🇨🇦

      I will admit, I prefer 18 - 22. Nothing hotter. It hit over 27 today and I'm not ready for that. This rum cask is just that. Simple, sweet, easy to enjoy. Way easier than all the 60+% I have around here. Those are very hard on the liver. The Armorik is good, and with a bit of age or maybe a small percentage of ex-bourbon it would integrate better. Thanks for dropping in!

    Not a fan of the Glenlivet in general. Try out the Lagavulin Offerman 4th Edition! Delicious! It should absolutely be in a back yard summer party. Glenlivet - this expression - is too sweet. The Lagavulin is well balanced with smoke and sweet! Great video! Cheers!

      You've tried this Glenlivet? That surprises me. You generally pick up higher class. It is sweet, but I know if I pour it for the next round of whisky nubes ... people will like it. Odd.

    Hello Jon! I like Bourbon cask whisky in warmer weather (Glencadam 10!). My latest rum cask scotch is Lagavulin 11 years old Offerman Edition. If you haven’t tried, please let me share my bottle with you. I think this one is a great summer dram.

      I'd love to try. Maybe we can find a time I can give back the Laphroaig releases and then try the Offerman. Um, the Kilhomans will not make it back. There was not too much left and ... they were so good!

    Hi, You aren't the first reviewer to say that AnCnoc 12 has some Ex-Sherry cask influence. However, in direct conversation with the distillery manager, Gordan Bruce, he categorically denies this. It is 100% First-Fill and Refill Ex-Bourbon barrels. Moreover, he confirmed that E150a colour has been added.

    Great review of those two supposed sherry dominant CS. I have tried GlenAllachie 10 CS B8 and it's a solid dram. I picked up B9 so look forward to trying that in future. I am glad to hear there are different flavor nuances between GA and GD CS. WIth that, I would love to find a bottle of Glendronach CS somewhere in ON or even in AB to have an oppty to compare. I am still loving the A'bunadh for a CS sherry bomb experience though. Happy Father's Day to you Jon! good to know, glenalachaie is out for me. started my journey on bourbon, and virgin oak is getting placed on the back burner wanting something different. this really showed up for me when i tried slane vs the higher proof slane using more virgin oak, and i liked the cheaper version better cuz it didnt overpower the sherry cask
